Pick the tool you need

Three small tools that turn your policy numbers into plain-dollar answers.

Three numbers decide your payout

Understand these and you can read any pet insurance policy like a pro.

01

Deductible

The amount you pay before reimbursement starts. Annual deductibles reset once per policy year.

02

Reimbursement rate

The percentage of covered costs the insurer pays after the deductible — typically 70%, 80%, or 90%.

03

Annual limit

The maximum total the insurer pays in a year. When it is reached, further claims are not reimbursed.

See the math before you file

A $5,000 bill, a $500 deductible, 80% reimbursement and a $10,000 annual limit. Most people expect insurance to pay $4,000 (80% of the bill). It actually pays $3,600 — because the deductible comes out first. That's the difference between a headline rate and your real payout.

Example — $5,000 bill · $500 deductible · 80% rate

Eligible amount
$5,000
Deductible applied
$500
After deductible
$4,500
Gross reimbursement
$3,600
Insurance pays
$3,600
You pay
$1,400

Effective reimbursement: 72% — lower than the 80% rate because the deductible reduces the payout.

Frequently asked questions

How much will my pet insurance actually pay?
It depends on four numbers: the eligible portion of the bill, your remaining deductible, your reimbursement rate, and your remaining annual limit. Enter your numbers in the calculator to see the modeled payout and your out-of-pocket cost.
Why is my effective reimbursement lower than the advertised rate?
Because the deductible comes out of the bill first, and any non-covered items are excluded. An 80% reimbursement plan can end up paying closer to 70% of a large invoice once the deductible is applied.
What happens when I hit my annual limit?
Once your total reimbursements for the year reach the annual limit, insurance stops paying for the rest of the policy year — the remaining claims are fully out of pocket. The calculator warns you when this happens.
Is this a guarantee that my insurer will pay?
No. This is an educational estimate based on the numbers you enter. Your insurer makes the final decision based on your actual policy terms, exclusions, and claim handling.
