Your plan reimburses 80% after the deductible, so the effective reimbursement on this entire $5,000 invoice is 72%. That is lower than 80% because the deductible and any non-covered amounts reduce what insurance actually pays.

Example pet insurance payouts

The same 80% reimbursement rate can produce a different payout depending on the deductible and annual limit. These examples show why the headline rate is only a starting point.

$5,000 bill · $500 deductible

$3,600

estimated payout

Estimated payout at 80%. You pay $1,400, an effective reimbursement rate of 72%.

$5,000 bill · deductible met

$4,000

estimated payout

With the annual deductible already satisfied, the full 80% rate applies to the eligible bill.

$5,000 bill · $3,000 limit

$3,000

estimated payout

The calculated payout is $3,600, but the remaining annual limit caps reimbursement at $3,000.

Frequently asked questions

How is the payout calculated?
The calculator subtracts any non-covered amount from the bill, applies your remaining deductible, multiplies by your reimbursement rate, and caps the result at your remaining annual limit. You pay whatever is left.
Why does the calculator ask about benefits already paid?
Your annual limit applies to the whole policy year. If insurance has already paid out part of your limit, less is available for this claim — the calculator accounts for that.
What does unlimited annual limit mean?
Some plans cap nothing per year. Toggle Unlimited and the calculator skips the annual-limit step entirely.
Does this guarantee what my insurer will pay?
No. This is an educational estimate based on the numbers you enter. Your insurer decides final coverage based on your policy, exclusions, and claim handling.

Actual reimbursement depends on policy terms, exclusions, waiting periods, deductible rules, limits, eligible expenses, and insurer-specific claim handling.
